Richard A. Viguerie, often called the Funding Father of the conservative movement, transformed American politics in the 1960s and ‘70s. Through his pioneering use of direct mail, Viguerie shattered the Left’s dominance on the country’s microphones, and broke the stranglehold of large donors by empowering millions of small donors to support their own candidates and causes—paving the way for Ronald Reagan, the first modern conservative president. The late David Franke, one of the founders of the conservative movement, formed the first nationwide activist group on the Right in 1959.  In the movement's formative years he served on the editorial staffs of Human Events and National Review, and his later media experience spans newsletters, magazines, books and the Internet.  Franke's articles have appeared in leading publications, and he is the author of nine previous books, including Safe Places and The Torture Doctor.
